Tampa Treasure Hunt: 3 Hidden Gem Reviews

With all of the development going on in Tampa, it's hard to keep track of what's new and where to go. On the other hand, our lives move so fast that we don't want to waste our free time somewhere that we are going to instantly regret and lose time we can never get back.

Here are 3 places you won't regret in the first installment of something we like to call Tampa Treasure Hunt, to find the new hidden gems.

The Gem:    The Mini Doughnut Company (2109 s dale Mabry, across from Plant High School) @minidoughnutfactory

When:  For weekend breakfast, event treats, work team thank you's.

The Mini Doughnut Company owned by chef Patrick Rudell, creates mini masterpieces with a variety of toppings that you won't have fat kid remorse about after you inhale them. Our favorite is the "Sweet Pig" a mini doughnut with bacon (yes real bacon) and maple drizzle. The only thing we can say is to either get there early on the weekends (like when they open, not kidding) or pre order and know what your pick up time is, because the demand is here and the line rivals Garrett's Popcorn in Chicago.

The Gem:  Sushi House

         1901 N 19th St, Tampa, FL  33605

           (Currently only on Facebook page)

When:  Date Night or Take Out

Sushi House is tucked away in a restored cigar house down in Ybor, like the one you toured in 5th grade. The prices are great and the sushi is amazing. The decor is modern and the staff is quick. Our favorite roll was the J.B. Tempura. They did not have their liquor license yet when we went but that didn't change our minds. They will soon deliver and when they do it will be a weekly occurrence at our house.

The Gem:  Mr. Peguin

There's one on Platt in Soho and now one on Watrous across from Publix

When: After school, After dinner, or any  Hot afternoon.

Mr. Peguin's is great. It's a small treat (with a lid) and the price is like the ice cream truck. It's basically soft serve ice cream and multiple flavors of Italian ice. It's delicious and addicting.  They will have something for everybody.
