A staple in every Southern city is a Junior League chapter. While the portrayal that was seen in "The Help" was halarious, most majority memberships are made up of women business leaders throughout your community. Even further insight, the Junior League of Tampa, actually started many of the charity programs that exist today.
Their largest fundraiser is the upcoming Holiday Gift Market (100% of the proceeds go to fund their projects and missions) and here are a few things you need to know:
1. What the Heck is it?
Imagine if Etsy and EBay had a baby. I know. AMAZING! It's held in the expo hall at the Florida State Fairgrounds and filled with merchants from all over the place, of all different kinds. Including clothing, food, game day, camo, home decor, candy, candles, ect. The goal is for you to get a gift for anyone all under one roof.
2. When is it?
This year it's Friday, Novemeber 13th, 2015, through Sunday, November 15th, 2015.
13th Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm
14th Saturday 9:00am to 6:00pm
15th Sunday 9:00am to 5:00pm
3. But like how much is this thing?
The greatest part that no one really gets is that general admission tickets are just $8.00 each! That's it and you're in! Online there is a processing fee, but it's basically a dollar and you skip the long ticket line at the event.
4. What else goes on at HGM?
So there are special events that are attached to HGM that you should know about.
Kickoff actually happens the Thursday night before HGM actually starts. It's when the merchants are all set up and people get a first chance to purchase items AND there are discounts! KICKOFF is a seperate ticket you would buy online, but it's worth it to not have to deal with crowds and don't have to pay full price for things.
VIP KICKOFF PARTY
So in case you want to make this a girls night and go all out, you can purchase the VIP KICKOFF ticket. This ticket is more expensive than regular KICKOFF, but that is because you take a shuttle to the VIP party that occurs inside a private tent prior to your shopping at KICKOFF. You basically party, eat, drink and dance before you enter the Wonderland that is KICKOFF. VIP usually includes luxury raffle prices and gift bags as well. Think of this as the main red carpet event for Holiday Gift Market.
Cookies with the Clauses
So this is for the kiddos, this is offered on Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00 and then again on Sunday from 12:00 to 2:00. So just make sure you purchase for the time you want to go. Adults will just need a regular admission ticket, but when you purchase this ticket for your littles it includes:
-Entrance into HGM
-Cookies and Milk (with all the goods for decorating)
-A picture with the Big Guy (Santa)
- A special craft to take home
5. Who else should I bring?
HGM is for everyone. No really. I had a newborn last year and they have an area called the "Mothers Nook", that was draped off and filled with everything you need for a pit stop to nurse/change/occupy your baby. Fully stocked too in case you forgot something.
Another plus is they have a full "Man Cave" set up that is sponsored and furnished with lazy boys and recliners and about 6 big screen tv's so no one will miss any part of game day while at the market.
There is also entertainment throughout the 3 days from local performers to demonstrations and even a visit from the Pirates of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and the Annies from the Krewe of Queen Anne's Revenge on Saturday at 11:00am.
6. Anything else I should Remember?
YES! The Fairgrounds still has to charge for parking so remember to bring $6.00. They only accept CASH.
And be prepared for traffic, which it will help by purchasing your tickets early online and bring your parking money.
Lastly, children under 7 are free!
